Bitters are resisting the drop in consumption and reinventing themselves, focusing on identity and quality to conquer new markets. Champions of rediscovery, they’re harnessing the finest raw materials, sophisticated recipes and a culture of conscious drinking to explore endless aperitif possibilities, from straight drinks to cocktails immersed in histories and places.
Amaro Panorama: A Taste of Naples in Every Glass
Amaro Panorama is a trailblazer in this direction. Created by the R&D lab of Distillatori Russo 1899, this amaro originated from the intuition of Vincenzo Russo, the company’s CEO and product manager, and is now led by chemist Giovanni Siniscalchi with bartender Alfonso Zito. “No artificial flavours, 100% natural and with 40% less sugar than the competition,” explains brand manager Danilo Bruno.

The aromatic profile recounts Naples through notes of chinotto, mandarin, summer lemon and lemon balanced by gentian and rhubarb, with a touch of originality from Vesuvian botanicals. The 30% alcohol content and moderate sweetness make it more drinkable than traditional bitters and perfect from aperitifs onwards. “It’s a fresh and pleasant Mediterranean bitters,” says Bruno. “To drink neat or in cocktails, from Daiquiris to Paper Planes, and even in soda-based highballs.” The label is a message to the city of Naples: Vesuvius seen from the Posillipo district, in one of the world’s most famous vistas.
