There are beautifully crafted gins that stand out from the rest like an extraordinary vision. In an age where individuality is expressed through every choice, Tatau Gin presents itself as a meeting point between tattoo culture and the art of mixology, as a liquid expression of rebellion.
Originating from the convergence of Istrian purity and Italian creative audacity, the gin by Paolo Sciavartini and Marin Maras – founders of the Imagine Spirits distillery – is a manifesto that goes against the conventional.
When Tattoos Meets Gin
Internationally renowned tattoo artist and ink poet Pietro Sedda was invited to design the bottle’s label. “I put on paper what I normally do on people’s skin”, he explains, with the nonchalance of someone who is used to turning the everyday into the surprising. His label for Tatau Gin is the story of a Victorian man adorned with marine-inspired tattoos who captures the look and essence of the gin.
Tatau Gin, Tasting Notes
Using a double-vapour infusion distillation process, Tatau Gin incorporates 12 botanicals with the addition of natural pigments: “The intense black of Sardinian squid ink blends with the blue hues of spirulina algae to create a spirit that is as much a pleasure for the eyes as it is for the palette. And the ears. Indeed, the etymology of tatau is a journey through time and space. It was actually an onomatopoeic sound,” explains Sedda, “which takes us all the way back to the Polynesian islands where tattooing began as a sacred ritual”.
Today, that primitive sound echoes in every sip of this distillate, a reminder that true art transcends time.
From The Skin To The Label
Tatau Gin that wants to be worn, a liquid accessory that completes the experience. Each bottle is a collector’s item, a piece of contemporary art history, an invitation to drink not only with the lips, but also with the eyes, the mind and the soul.
